Safeguarding Sussex Week 2017

Monday 27 November – Friday 1 December 2017

Since 2015 the Local Safeguarding Children Board have been working with the Safeguarding Adult’s Board and the Safe in the City Partnership to put on a week of learning events called Safeguarding the City. This year our third safeguarding week will be bigger and better than ever before, as we are joining with our partner boards from East and West Sussex to collaborate on events across the whole of Sussex.

The week will focus on improving the knowledge, skills and understanding of the many aspects of safeguarding across the workforce. It is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of safeguarding within your organisation or agency setting. The focus of this year’s events will be Tackling Neglect

The week will open with a Pan Sussex LSCB Conference at Brighton Racecourse on Monday 27 November, 9am-4.30pm, focusing on Child Neglect.  We have invited national speakers including Dr Jenny Molloy, author of Hackney Child, and Research in Practice to talk about how neglect manifests on a national level, and local experts will consider how we deal with this difficult area of our safeguarding work within the county. If you work in Brighton & Hove and would like to come to this free event please email us at, Please note that places are limited, with a certain capacity for staff from each of our partner agencies, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The week will close with the 10th Annual Safeguarding Adults Board Conference on Friday 1 December. The day will have a mix of presentations and workshops designed to suit the wide range of people involved in safeguarding adults with care & support needs.More information and details of how to book are available here

We are expecting this to be a vibrant week, with a varied offering of activities that will engage and motivate safeguarding staff who work with children or adults in learning and practice improvement. Please see the below for information on sessions taking place during the week, and click the links to book and for further information.  Visit our sister LSCB’s websites to see more events taking place in West Sussex & East Sussex.

All events organised by Brighton & Hove LSCB, Brighton & Hove SAB and the Safe in the City Partnership are free to attend for anyone working in Brighton & Hove. Additional costs may apply for those sessions provided by other facilitators
